I knew it was coming. Every year we get a letter from the homeowner’s association about something that I need to fix or be fined. I recently received a second notice (somehow I missed the first one) that I need to get rid of the mold/mildew on the side of the house. This isn’t the first time that the HOA has cited me for this. The first time I hired someone to power wash the siding and fence. It wasn’t cheap. The second time my husband and I rented a power washer and took care of the siding, driveway, sidewalks, and back patio ourselves. Of course that was when it was ninety degrees outside, not forty. Right now is not exactly the best time of the year to be outside getting wet. We decided to give a commercial product a try. I went to the local Home Depot and picked up a bottle of Home Armor EZ House Wash for a little under $9.
Basically you hook it up to your water hose, spray the siding with the cleaning solution, wait 5-10 minutes, then rinse it off. Sounded too good to be true.
I had to access my neighbor’s backyard to be able to reach one of the areas. They were super cool and even let me use their hose since mine wasn’t long enough to reach all the way. I sprayed the siding (from an angle so I wouldn’t get wet), waited, rinsed, and voila…the mold came right off. Wow. I really wasn’t expecting it to work.
This product was cheap and worked well enough to keep the HOA at bay until I can do a more thorough cleaning in a few months. Honestly I couldn’t find a spray bottle with hose attachment for less than the cost of this product plus I didn’t need to fuss with making some homemade solution and get to keep the sprayer for future use. Bargain!
